"Wise Up on Meds" Presentation Coming Soon!

By Judy Riemer, Parish Nurse

Why should you come to a presentation about prescription medicines?  Here are just a few reasons:

1.  The number of drugs on the market has exploded!  Doctors can choose from many more prescription drugs today than even ten years ago.  More medications = more chance of drug interactions and consumer confusion, especially if you have more than one doctor prescribing medicine for you or a loved one.

2.  The number of people using prescription drugs has also exploded.  Three-fourths of Americans over the age of 45 take an average of four prescription medications each day.  And the older you get, the more likely you are to take more than four each day.

3.   Medications act differently in different people.  Do you know what to report to your doctor when you or a loved one are taking medicines?  Do you know how your medicines may interact with each other?

4.  Are you worried about the cost of your medicines?

The parish nurses will be presenting the AARP program ?Wise Up on Meds? during the Adult Forum time in the new parish library ? the program consists of an excellent video presentation by Bill Thomas, MD on managing your medications, lots of great handouts, and information about various resources for low cost prescriptions.  If you or a family member takes prescription medications, this presentation is for you!  Date/time to be announced.  Stay tuned to the weekly bulletins and this page to find out when!
